A Different Kind of Government: Iraq

i had this crazy random thought. i have been thinking about the dilemma of government in iraq. and i have specifically thought about the long term civil unrest almost certain unless something is done soon.

i have seen so much destruction and hatred and unrest in the country of iraq, firsthand and through other sources. the situation seems hopeless at times. although there are rays of hope from time to time, the long term situation seems impossible.

then, today, i had a novel idea, which might apply to a greater principle with globalization as well. why not have two houses of the congress/parliament/whatever-you-decide-to-call-it. and in one house, have equal representation between shia, sunni, kurd, and christian. thus, no one group would feel powerless. and at the same time, let the other house be a general election, which would mean that the shia’s would probably (or almost certainly) have a majority of that house. thus, the majority (shia) of people would be satisfied because they would have more representation, but the minorities would also feel secure because they would have equal representation as well.

obviously, like the house of representatives and the senate, a bill would have to pass both houses in order to become law. thus, ensuring a fair law which all sides could agree upon. and another aspect is that ability to delegate special powers to the particular houses. for instance, give the equal faction house the decision-making for issue which cause sectarian tension, whereas the general areas could be delegated more directly to the other house.

i think this might be a viable solution. what do yall think?

ps i will talk more about global implications in part 2.

    1. What am linking between him rush limnbuagh, him hannity, tv love the torture show “24″,william kristol and him fox tv news show for make ameriki the uneducation? In Waziristan them imam say all from master propaganda expert mr. roger ailes.

Please smart ameriki explaining this connection for mullah cimoc.

    2. Am true neocon trick ameriki for starting irak war, lie of wmd plant by israel intel?

Am true him neocon the israel citizen or him wife the israel citizen?

Am true neocon him acting the agent of israeli?

Please explaining this for mullah cimoc.

    3. so many the ameriki woman kill abortion the baby, taking the LBT (low back tattoo) and the slut have sex with every man and to smoke the cigerette and the meth. How ameriki society to surviving extinct when this happen?

All in waziristan needing this informtion. to thanking you so much our friend.

  2. interesting concept PBandJ, something I’ll think on further… it would be nice to see a poll/comments by the Iraqi people on their thoughts as well…

although there may be a large number of those whom have no concept on differing governing types, and (specifically in the rural areas) we may see an indifference for central government, caring only about a local tribal government.

is there a platform to get these ideas out? haha probably not unless you’ve got some political clout/substantial influence i guess

  3. salam alikum mullah cimoc,

thanks for the comments. i will do my best to answer your questions.

    1. in regard to the fox television network, i think for the most part roger ailes and rupert murdoch do not care what they show on their television channels, as long as they make them money. therefore, people like rush limbaugh, sean hannity, and “24″ are popular television shows and make them lots of money. i think fox cares about money and are not doing this as political propaganda.

    2. i am sorry, but i dont know who specifically you are referring to. i know you are asking about a neoconservative or neocon, but i dont know who you are speaking of. as far as the neocon influence in america. i dont think it is as strong as people might think it is. i think they have much less influence than other groups.

    3. this question is a very good question. but let me address each question separately. first, as far as the majority of women in america, there are very small amounts of women who get an abortion. second, there are many women who choose to have sex before they are married, but it is not the women’s fault only. men are just as at fault. i think the true reason this happens is because most americans are not living christian lives, even though they claim that they are christian. i know there are muslims who are the same way. people who claim to obey Allah, but they do horrible things.

let me end with by answering a question with another question:

yes, america may have problems, but do imam’s also teach the huge problems that the people of saudi arabia have? i have family in saudi arabia, and there are many things bad there. for instance, men who drink much alcohol and do illegal drugs. they spend their money on gambling and prostitution. they kill innocent people. they blow themselves up to kill other people. therefore, let me ask this again, do the imam’s teach about the people in saudi arabia who live evil lifestyles?

thank you for reading my post. ma’a salam.

i think that you are right that provincial govts are supremely important in iraq, but that is for another topic.

  5. I think the minorities would argue that the other house comprised of a simple majority would in effect have veto power over any pro-minority legislation that managed to come out of the balanced house, otherwise I think it’s a good idea. The problem overall is that ordinary people like you and I have too much common sense, whereas politicians and diplomats seem have none.

  6. lyndon

i think that there are plenty of people in power with common sense, but i think they are too trapped by political ties and financial support. so their decisions often reflect those factors more strongly than their own common sense.

as far as the minorities arguing, sure i think you are right. there would be outcry that it isnt “fair”, but i think presented compared with the present state of affairs, they would think quite highly of it. and besides, as the writers of the federalist papers wisely demonstrated, one of the great things about checks and balances is the lack of ability to get much accomplished. in that way, only the most important issues get the attention and it takes a long time and a balanced bill in order to become law.

so would the iraqs agree to having such a transformation? maybe. would it ever get accomplished? not any longer, because i fear the damage has been done.
